The genesis of The Sunday Spectator comes from my plan of study meeting during my first year in PhD school. As a burgeoning political communication scholar, I was asked by a professor if I wanted to study “big P” or “little P.” I had no idea what the distinction was so I said what most other Americans would, “big P.” The distinction the professor was referring to, as I would find out during coursework over the next two years, is the difference between institutional politics (big P) and the social impact of politics (little P). But as I finished my PhD, I felt compelled to answer that question as “both.” In an effort to examine both political arenas, The Sunday Spectator hopes to provide a space for discussion on politics of the day in the hopes of better understanding and navigating the political realities of the 21st century.
My special thanks to Heather Foster White for producing all of the art on this website. Her contribution to this project is unmeasurable!
